The Langtang Tamang Heritage Trek offers a peek at the Himalayan lifestyle and culture. This is perhaps the most accessible trekking region in Nepal. This journey takes you through the verdant midlands of Nepal.
The key attraction here is the beauty of this mountain region and its native culture. Spectacular panoramas of Ganesh Himal, the Langtang Lirung, and the Gosainkunda can be experienced here.
The treks passes through traditional Tamang villages, and you get to witness the unchanged cultural heritage of this tribe. Hundreds of years ago the Tamang people arrived from Tibet as horse traders.
Residing mostly in the hills of Nepal, they have retained their Tibetan roots, as well as their language. Historically, they are the most marginalized ethnic group of Nepal.
The Langtang Tamang Heritage Trek embraces the local culture, their elaborate costumes, the rich architecture of their mountain houses, and the ancient monasteries.
Additionally, the trek also offers an experience of mountainous terrain, flat pastures, rhododendron woods, and glacier mountain scenes.
This is a cultural trek in which you can learn about one of Nepal’s Tibetan-influenced hill tribes. You can also stop and enjoy hot spring waters at Tatopani for relaxation.
Langtang Tamang Heritage Trekking is a moderate trek that taking you to elevations of Kyanjin Gompa 3,870 m. The best time to go on this trek is from February to June or from September to December.
After landing at the Tribhuwan International Airport, you will be greeted by our representative staff who will drop you off at the hotel. You will check-in at the hotel, freshen up and take a rest. Overnight in Kathmandu.
You will explore Durbar Square, Pashupatinath temple, Swayambhunath stupa and Bouddhanath stupa which are all world heritage sites. Durbar Square reveals the life of the royals in ancient times. Pashupatinath temple is one of the most significant places of pilgrimage for all Hindus. Swayambhunath, also known as the Monkey Temple and Bauddhanath Stupa is one of the largest stupas in the world. At noon, you are introduced to our fellow participants and discuss our trip to our office. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi by bus with sights of beautiful landscapes and snow-covered mountains road takes around eight hours. Before reach, the small and beautiful town of Syabrubesi, enjoy the rural beauty of Nepal as drive past several Nepali towns and villages. Once you reach Syabrubesi, an attractive village with large stone houses makes the feeling some exploration of the town. Overnight in Syabrubesi.
We hike across the Goljung Village enjoying views of the Ganesh Himal, Shishapangma, Langtang Lirung, and others from Syabrubesi. As we move ahead we reach Gatlang which is a small village on the hillside with traditional stone houses. Overnight at Gatlang.
Today’s trek begins with a descent to Thangbuche, you can observe magnificent panoramas of the Ganesh Himal and Langtang Ranges along the way. We then pass by the Chilime Hydro-power dam and ascend to Tatopani. The name Tatopani means ‘hot water’ in Nepali owing to the natural hot springs there. You can enjoy or relax from a harsh trek in Tatopani. Overnight in Tatopani.
We begin our trek from Tatopani to Thuman via Brimdang and Nagthali. As we pass through the thick alpine forest, we reach the small Tamang settlement of Brimdang. After a few hours walk uphill from Brimdang we reach Nagthali hill. You can enjoy the mesmerizing views of Langtang, Sanjen, Kerung, and Ganesh Himal. As we trek downhill, we reach Thuman village inhabited by Tamang community people. Overnight in Thuman.
Today, we trek from Thuman to Briddim via Lingling. Ideally located on the lap of the Langtang Himal, Briddim is a Tibetan Buddhist village where we can visit the Dukchu Gomba monastery. We can observe that most of the houses in Briddim are built by stones and are inhabited mostly by people of Tibetan origin. Briddim village also resembles a typical Tibetan village on this side of Tibet. Overnight in Briddim.
As we begin our trek from Briddim to Lama Hotel, the trail descends to Ghopche Khola which is a small stream. Then we ascend to Lama Hotel via Rimche. Lama Hotel is located on the banks of the Langtang River, surrounded by dense forests and amazing mountain panorama. Overnight in Lama Hotel.
After breakfast, we begin on our trip to Langtang Village. Our trail continues alongside dense forests. After ascending steadily through the valley, we leave the tree line behind us. On the way, we also experience the marvelous scenes of Langtang Lirung and pass by water mills, prayer wheels, and chortens adorned with sacred mounds of rocks with inscriptions carved on them. After breakfast, we move from Langtang village and walk through yak pastures. Today, we also pass the largest Mani wall in Nepal which is built from stone with prayers inscribed on them. We cross many wooden bridges before reaching Kyanjin Gompa which is elegantly enclosed by the mighty Himalayas. Overnight in Kyanjin Gompa.
Today we take a day off trekking to explore the areas around Kyanjin Gompa enjoying astounding panoramas of glaciers, icefalls, birds, and yaks. We head towards Langshisha Kharka following the trail of Langtang valley past the branch off to Tserko RI and the deserted airfield. You can enjoy the scene of nearby peaks like Langtang Lirung (7227 m) and Dorje Lakpa (6966 m) as we ascend around some of the old glacial terminal moraines and finally arrive in Langshisha Kharka. Every August, a large festival is held that brings visitants from all around the Langtang region to rejoice how the valley was found. The place also grants close glimpses of the glaciers. Then descend back to Kyanjin Gompa. Overnight in Kyanjin Gompa.
Today we do a side trip to either Kyanjin RI or Tserko RI, Both of them presets impressive views of white snow-capped mountains and massive deep valley, sparking and frozen lakes. Compare to both viewpoints Tserki RI is a tougher and better view than Kyanjin RI. The trail starts passing villages and ascending through yak pastures. As you climb higher the view seen is bigger and closer. After spending some time at the summit we return to Kyanjin Gompa. Overnight in Kyanjin Gompa.
The trek starts to retrace steps to Lama Hotel. Most of the trekking today will be downhill, pass through forests and beautiful Tamang villages. All the way downhill saw fantastic views of the towering mountain that have been missed on the way up. Overnight in Lama Hotel.
Hike back to Syabru Besi. The trail is mostly downhill through the lush green vegetation with enjoying a fascinating view of the Mountains and green hills. Reach to Syabru for the overnight stay.
We drive back to Kathmandu from Syabrubesi. The road passes through terraces, streams, rivers, local settlements, high hills and along the Trishuli riverside. After a long drive reach hotel in Kathmandu.
