Introduction

Pikey Peak Trek is a newly introduced trekking route and closest alternative to crowded Everest trek. This trek falls in the Khumbu region which allows us to enjoy an up-close view of Everest and the lower Khumbu region along with magical landscapes.

You will be able to observe a spectacle of sunrise and sunset over the giant peaks is so magical that presents you a whole new experience.

Aside from majestic Himalayan views, you will get the chance to explore unique geography and the life it supports.

The unique Sherpa Culture and their hospitality are very intriguing. Being a newly discovered trekking route, it grants an off-beat and isolated trekking experience.

Pikey Peak is one of the tallest “Hills” in the Solukhumbu region whose name Pikey is derived from the name of a Sherpa community divinity. During the month of July, the locals hold different celebrations to worship their deity.

In this trek, you will be able to observe a magnificent view of most solicited peaks of Everest, Kanchanjunga, and Makalu, the trail passes through authentic Sherpa villages and monasteries following the beaten trail.

Many earlier mountaineers and explorers including ‘Sir Edmund Hilary’ have admitted that the view of Mt. Everest from Pikey Peak pretty stunning and magnificent. Pikey Peak at the elevation of 4,067 m in the lower Everest region is the best viewpoint to look into Mt Everest and other peaks east of Kathmandu.

The Pikey Peak is most popular for its sunrise and sunset views and one can experience the spectacle of seven 8000-meter peaks such as Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Everest, Lhotse, Manaslu, Annapurna and Shishapangma in Tibet and numerous other peaks like Gauri Shanker, Lhotse Shar, Nuptse, AmaDablem, Mera and Thamserku.

Moreover, the region is easy to access and provide a flexible itinerary with the opportunity of driving or flying to the trekking trailhead.

The trek starts with scenic drive or flight, east of Kathmandu. The rolling hills with cascading waterfalls, terraces and primary village in the forefront of snow peaks make the journey awe-inspiring.

Once we start walking, authentic Buddhist villages marked by prayers flag and Mane walls welcome us. Rustic monasteries and authentic Sherpa villages along the trail are long gone in popular Everest path.

We walk through the Rhododendron forest and come to the high pastures with a far-reaching view. The best time to go on this moderate trek is from Feb to May and Sept to Dec.

This was a perfect way to be introduced to much of the culture of Nepal. We had an excellent friendly guide, full of knowledge he is extremely happy the share about Nepal and the Himalayan people. He took us to some beautiful and varied landscapes and incredible monasteries. He was also very good at making adjustments to the schedule for a long term knee injury I have. I’m am desperate to go back to Nepal and on another trek with Incredible Mountains Travels.
