The Khopra Danda Trek (also known as the Khopra Ridge Trek), is an excellent alternative to the more popular and inevitably crowded Ghorepani trek. This trek offers the taste of an ‘off-the-beaten-path’ adventure.
Khopra Danda Trek follows a local trail descending into the valley north of Ghorepani, before ascending into the “Khopra Ridge”. It is one of the best short treks in Nepal that is untouched and less crowded compared to other treks. The trek takes you to an elevation of 3660 m at Khopra Danda.
A short trek, and the best part is that only a few people know about the Khopra Danda Trek. The awe-striking mountains such as Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchhre are clearly visible through this route. Scenes of rural villages and paddy fields lead up to a beautiful country experience.
We pass through the Rhododendron forest and meet Himalayan wildlife like Pheasants and Yaks. The trek also takes us to the sacred and beautiful Khayar Lake at the foot of Annapurna South. This trek lead you to Poon Hill((3,210m) where you get the best sunrise views over the massive wondrous Himalayan Ranges.
The trails present you with a new and exciting experience and take you to pretty villages and farmland at Ghandrung. While descending through pastoral villages to Tatopani, you willl also encounter the local Cheese factory at Paudwar.
Our journey begins with a scenic ride from Kathmandu to Pokhara then trek through the vibrant Gurung of Ghandruk. The trail continues to follow to Tadapani and then on the off beaten trail to Bayali which goes through a thick forest of rhododendron oak and pine. The trail then leads us closer towards Annapurna South to Khopra Danda where we can observe panoramic scenes of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range.
Then the trailing trail turns around down to Swanta and up to Ghorepani through Bayeli Kharka. The trek goes through Tadapani and hikes to Poonhill for the popular sunrise and panoramic view and finally ends at Pokhara.
The best time to embark on this trek is from Feb to June, and Sept to Dec.
After landing at the Tribhuwan International Airport, you will be greeted by our representative staff who will drop you off at the hotel. You will check-in at the hotel, freshen up and take a rest. Overnight in Kathmandu.
You will explore Durbar Square, Pashupatinath temple, Swayambhunath stupa and Bouddhanath stupa which are all world heritage sites. Durbar Square reveals the life of the royals in ancient times. Pashupatinath temple is one of the most significant places of pilgrimage for all Hindus. Swayambhunath known as the Monkey Temple and Bauddhanath Stupa is one of the largest stupas in the world. At noon, you are introduced to our fellow participants and discuss our trip to our office. Overnight in Kathmandu.
You can either travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara by tourist bus or take a flight. It takes about 6-7 hours by bus whereas only 30-35 minutes by plane. Once you reach Pokhara, you can enjoy the amazing sights and its stunning setting by Phewa Lake. Overnight in Pokhara.
Drive to Nayapul by bus from Pokhara, it will take about one hour. Then we will trek from Nayapul to Ghandruk. We follow the Modi Khola, cross the river in Birethanti, to follow Modi Khola valley passing Sauly Bazaar, this will take about 2 hours, and then we climb up steps and continue to walk to. The beautiful Gurung village of Ghandruk, a village with vibrant Buddhist monasteries and houses made of slate and stones with beautiful mountain views and rich in Gurung traditions Overnight at Ghandruk.
We leave the terraced hillsides and the village of Ghandruk behind and trek through rhododendron and oak forest. There are no villages on this route, but there are a few teahouses at the place called Baisi Kharkha (Buffalo Grassing place) to rest. We will get to see awe-inspiring views of Machhapuchhare (6993m), Annapurna II (7937 m), Annapurna III (7555 m), Annapurna IV (7525 m), Annapurna South (7237 m), and Lamjung Himal (6931 m) along the way.
From Tadapani we walk the first and half hours through the forest of rhododendrons and Primula. Then after 4 hours of gradual climb, we reach above the timberline with amazing views of the Annapurna .we will stop for lunch my streams and continue through the through open countryside to reach a small pass from here the trail descends through rhododendron to a clearing known as Bayli Kharka and the lodge. From the village, we can enjoy superb views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, the seventh highest mountain in the world.
From Bayli Kharka we will descend through forests to reach the pastures of Chistibang. From Chistibang we trek for around 2 hours to ascend above the timberlines to reach the ridge at Kopra, You might get to see Himalayan tahr and Danfe pheasant on the way. On top, we will see amazing views on all sides of Dhaulagiri, Damphus Peak, Tukuche Peak, Nilgiri, Annapurna 1, Annapurna South and deep down Sikha.
From Khopra Ridge we can walk to Khayar Lake at 4600m which will take around 5 hours we’ll take a steep trail on the ridge with stone steps with a gorgeous view of nature. After visiting the lake we will come back down to Khopra. For those who don’t want to visit the lake we will trek down a trail to reach the nice little village Swanta, with incredibly friendly people, it is also the community cheese factory where not many other tourists come. You can explore the place as well as taste cheese.
We will descend through the village fields to a small river then will cross the suspension bridge. Then we head upwards to the village of Chittre, where we will join the main trekking trail. There is a further ascent to reach the Ghorepani .we will enjoy seeing great views of the Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre massif and a well-earned rest.
We ascend to Poon Hill (3,210 m) early morning to view sunrise over the whole Annapurna, Dhaulagiri massif including Mt Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Mt. Manaslu and surrounding rice terrace A favorite spot among photographers After visiting Poonhill, we will trek back to Naya pul then drive to Pokhara.
To return to Kathmandu, you can take either take a 30-minute flight to Kathmandu or a 7-8 hour bus long drive. You will witness amazing landscapes either way. Upon reaching Kathmandu, feel free to stroll around the places of Kathmandu. We serve your farewell dinner in Kathmandu at a cultural restaurant in our regard. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.

We recently did the Khopra dada treks it was an unbelievable experience. It was great views from Mulde’s viewpoint and Khopra’s dada. We really loved how the trip was so well organized by Mr. Prakash everything went very well. The places we stayed in along trek were nice and comfortable and the food was good. All in all a really great trip for us and we would highly recommend Incredible Mountains Travels.
