Nepal has always been a religious retreat center for spiritual practices in the Himalayas. The internal strife and invasion adversely affected the dissemination of Buddhism in the place of its origin. The mountainous country of Nepal became a haven for Buddhist practice for centuries. Kathmandu and its periphery have hundreds of meditation caves, monasteries, and stupas related to Bodhisattvas, Siddhas, and Buddha.
This tour also takes you to Lumbini – the birthplace of Lord Buddha. There are over 60 archaeological places that have been classified around Lumbini, including the only surviving, unexcavated Buddha monument, Stupa of Ramgram. This tour not only takes you to Lumbini but also to all the famous Buddhist sites in Nepal, mainly in Kathmandu, including Swayambhunath, Bouddhanath stupa, and Namo Boudha.
Swayambhunath has a dome-like structure at its foundation, above which you see a cubical formation. The system that you look at it has painted the eyes of Buddha. Another important Buddhist site, Bouddhanath stupa, is one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world, where over 50 Tibetan Gompas or monasteries are located. This tour also provides you with all the resources you want on Buddhism. Namo Buddha is famous for Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery, where the Lord Buddha gave his body to a starving tigress and her cubs.
The highlights of the Buddhist Tour in Nepal include the birthplace of Lord Buddha – Lumbini, visiting the world’s largest monastery – Bouddhanatha Stupa, you get to know the life story of Lord Buddha, and visiting UNESCO world heritage sites and the city of temples. During the tour, visitors can observe the Buddhist devotees chanting religious hymns in their religious attire devoted to Buddhism.
After landing at the Tribhuwan International Airport, you will be greeted by our representative staff who will drop you off at the hotel. You will check-in at the hotel, freshen up and take a rest. Overnight in Kathmandu.
After morning breakfast, we begin our to visit the historical and UNESCO world heritage sites of Kathmandu escorted by our city tour guide. Today, we will visit two Buddhist shrine sites one is Boudhanath and another one is Swyambhunath stupa. Firstly, we observe the Buddhist pilgrimage site that is “Swyambhunath” which is well known as the monkey temple of Nepal. We will observe lots of monkeys around Swyambhunath and visit the major part of the stupas. And then we move towards today’s other site Bouddhanath stupa. It is one of the world’s large Buddhist stupas where over 50 Tibetan Gompas or monasteries lie. Especially the monks of these stupa are from Tibet.
After breakfast, we head towards Namobuddha by leaving behind the crowded city of Kathmandu. We take a short and scenic one hour drive to Dhulikhel. Dhulikhel is a beautiful traditional Newar town. Then we begin to trek gradually ascending about 1750 m to reach Namobuddha. During the trek, we pass via a beautiful classic terrace with breathtaking mountain views. We observe Namobuddha which is an ancient sacred destination of the Buddhist religion. The monastery is surrounded by beautiful Tamang settlements. You can see many other Buddha’s stupas in the hill. You will get astounded by the number of temples, variations in landscapes and diversity of people living in harmony. And then drive back to Kathmandu. Stay overnight at the hotel.
Today after breakfast, we drive for about 7-9 hours from Kathmandu to Lumbini – the birthplace of Lord Buddha. Kathmandu to Lumbini is around 315 km drive which will take around 8 hours to reach. Lumbini lies in the Terai region of Nepal which is more flat land. Because of the low altitude than the Kathmandu city, the weather gets hotter here except in the winter. However, Lumbini is the most important Buddhist holy site. Upon reaching Lumbini check-in at the hotel. Free and relax. Overnight at Lumbini.
Wake up in the morning have breakfast get ready for Lumbini sightseeing. We can observe different places such as Kapilvastu, Niglihawa, Kudan, Gotihawain Lumbini and major attractions such as Maya Devi temple & Ashoka Pillar, Museum, Monasteries & Gomba, and many more. Overnight at Lumbini.
Have breakfast, pack your luggage and drive back to Kathmandu. You will reach Kathmandu in the evening. Check-in at Hotel, free and relax. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Breakfast and transfer to the airport for final departure by noon. Time to say good bye and see you soon for next trip to Nepal.
