The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) trek is one of the most popular treks in Annapurna region. It is for the trekkers who are looking for spectacular scenery and a great trekking experience. A trek deep in the heart of the Annapurna’s massif, going through marvelous valleys to discover the life of the mountain people and to be astonished by the immense splendor of Nepal. Highlights of the trek include panoramic views of mountain ranges and peaks, captivating sunrises and sunsets, terraced farmlands with ample time to visit the villages of different ethnic groups and to immerse within in the Himalayan lifestyle plus you can indulge yourself with warm hospitality of the local people.
The Annapurna Base Camp lies at a height of 4,230 meters and is where mountaineers start their summit of Annapurna I, the 10th highest peak in the world at 8,091 meters. The Annapurna Base Camp Trek takes 7 to 14 days, depending on your itinerary and length of walking days. We start from Nayapul (a 1 1/2 hour drive from Pokhara) and go north up to Ghorepani and then to the famous viewpoint of Poon Hill. From Ghorepani you go eastward to Chomrong and then north again entering the Modi Kola Valley which leads up to the Base Camp. The setting of Annapurna Base Camp at 4130 m is unique and incredibly spectacular, set amidst the majestic peaks of Annapurna I (8091 m), Annapurna South (7219 m), Machapuchhre (6993 m) and Hiunchuli (6441 m).The ABC trail traverses a variety of terrain ranging from glacier moraine and rice terraces to rocky stone steps and, along the way, offers an amphitheater of huge Himalayan peaks. The trail goes alongside terraced rice paddies, lush rhododendron forests and high altitude landscapes with the Annapurna Range in view most of the times. In addition to great scenery, the trek takes you through the villages of the ethnic communities of Gurung and Thakali, the latter renowned for their incredibly tasty Dal Bhat, also known as ‘Thakali’ sets.
As the Annapurna Base Camp Trek does not entail much of physical energy and is not strenuous by any means, anybody who wishes to experience the charm and beauty of the beautiful Annapurna can embark on the trek. While this trek can be undertaken all year round, it is especially beautiful during spring as rhododendron flowers along the trail turn red, pink and white so trekkers consider October to early December & mid March to May as the best time to trek here. Be a part of Incredible Mountains and go through this classic trail for a great trekking experience.
